The three diameters of rod and tube which make up the posts. 3mm O.D. tube, 2.5mm O.D. tube, 2mm O.D. rod

The sections were slid into each other, one end gripped in the vice and the three parts soldered together

The bottom section of 2mm rod which passes through the baseboard was threaded 8BA

The threaded section and the plates which fit above and below the baseboard and the 8BA nut

The assembled post base

Cross arm fixing brackets are cut from thin brass and drilled to fit over the post then folded double

Completed post assembly with Sommerfeldt registration arms and insulators.

The cross arm supports are thin brass wire

A simple jig was made for the catenary wire droppers by drilling holes in a steel block the required distances from the edge, then fitting wire into the hole, bending over as seen

0.5mm Sommerfeldt coppered steel wire was used for the contact wire assembly. This was taped to a simple jig where the wire positions were drawn. The staple shaped droppers can be seen, this gives a stronger join than just butt-jointed wires
