Class 362

- Page two -

Both body sections have now been reassembled with the new side panels. The cabs are only tacked in place for alignment purposes. Final assembly will be after more work on the cab sections.

A lot of smoothing to be done, then a coat of primer to show up any imperfections. New buffer beams and side valances will be added next.

above: The new bufferbeams and side valances. The different shape of one pair are because only one side of each cab has a door, and the deeper part incorporates the cab steps.
right: The items fitted to cab fronts. Also shown are the light units, made from two pieces of 1.6mm ID brass tube with a wrapper of thin brass. These will be inserted into the buffer beams. Fibre optic cable will be used for the headlights.
The basic body sections have been assembled and sprayed grey primer to show up any imperfections.

Only a small amount of further smoothing is neccessary, before detailing continues.
Various beading has now been added
plus door handles and a grab on the
roof near cab A.

Next will be the cab steps and the
steps near buffer beams.

below: Various handrails and grabs have now been fitted, also cab and front steps.
Above is the locomotive which will donate the chassis for the 362. This is a Hornby/Rivarossi E.655 and it is a superb runner, it also
has more correct bogies for the 362. Above right is the excellent mechanism.

Below left are the 362 body halves in front of the E.655. But as the wheelbase of the E.655 is too short, and this is a beautiful
locomotive, it will be kept as it is - these locos do run into Ljubljana - this is all the excuse I need to keep it!

Below right is a close up showing the turned brass porthole frames, simply
made by parting off sections of brass tube in my lathe.

Some resin castings are underway.

Left shows the pattern for the bogie sideframe (top) and the first casting
off the mould (bottom).

Right is the brass pattern for the
side grilles. Ten castings will be
needed off this. This is currently
in a mould along with the sand box
and small grilles near a porthole.
The motor bogies are now completed, except for addition of
sandboxes, etc. on sideframes. A dummy bogie still to be
made for centre bogie.

A chassis frame will then be made and the body parts fitted
to the mechanism.
